A public meeting for residents to discuss the impact of Midlothian Councils plans for Bonnyrigg and Lasswade for the next 10yrs. It will be a round table discussion/ workshop type affair where we get the report out, work through it, look at the map of planned developments, and the comments we made 2 years ago. Then we will make a list of the impacts residents feel it will have on the community and local environment. Anyone can come, even if you haven't read the plan. it will be an opportunity to get our heads around it. Etc. it's on Thurs 4th June. 7pm in George V Park pavilion. The deadline for comments is 26th June. (BTW There is a big Midlothian Wide public meeting to discuss the Midlothian wide issues like coalescence and green belts the following Monday 8th June, with MSP's, press etc)

An evening news reporter asked what Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Councils view on the GP's patient system was. Here's the general gist of 3 years of work on this:
Bonnyrigg GP's do a good job but are not keeping up with the 8.3% population boom. They are asking patients to assess whether a condition requires an urgent appointment or a 2-4 week wait. Nothing in between. Three years ago Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Community Council challenged this policy following an incident where a vigorous 70 yr old neighbour went to the GP with stomach pain. When asked if it was an emergency, she didn’t want to make a fuss. She was told the earliest appointment was in 2 weeks, and to visit the pharmacy. 10 days later she died from cancer. This system discriminates against those who don’t shout the loudest or know the right answers to get seen. Three years later residents are still weary of this two week policy. It is causing significant knock on effects. Parents are having to find work arounds to get their children seen promptly. Out of hours care has become a more attractive option. Folk are even going to AnE with GP issues. A recent neighbourhood survey of 600+ residents showed they want faster appointment times. We need GP’s to give us 3-7 day appointments. (and text alerts to reduce missed appointments.) It was probably one of the longest agendas yet, but we managed to get through it all by 9:30 without having to stop people talking too many times. We also managed a small break in the middle too. Thanks to the 22 folk who came. Your views are being sought by Midlothian Council on the effects of Midlothian Councils "vision for shaping the future of Midlothian's communities" (MLDP). For example how will it "improve the quality of life and human health for communities." You have till 26th June to make your comment here. |
